I keep hearing from so many people how much they hate their circumstances and wonder WHY bad things are happening to them. I know it’s a question we all wish we could find the answers to.. None of us want or ask for difficult, painful, and heartbreaking circumstances to come our way. They just do and there is not one person that will be spared from it, but how you handle those circumstances is something we can control.
I recently watched the movie, “Unbroken”, about the life story of World War II hero Louis Zamperini. This man’s life went from highest ups to the lowest lows. Out on a mission for the military his plane crashed. He was left lost at sea for 47 days floating on nothing but a raft in shark infested waters. He drifted 2,000 miles, right into the enemy’s hand and for the next two years he was a prisoner of war in a Japanese prison camp. It is truly mind boggling the horrific circumstances this man went through and his testimony of how he stayed strong through all of it is truly inspiring.
His story reminded me that when seemingly unbearable circumstances come our way we have to dig deep inside and find the God given strength to press on. I do believe that how you respond to those circumstances makes a big difference. When you are in the middle of a mess it may seem too hard to overcome, but with the following steps it will make a big impact on your life to help you move forward.
– Focus on What You CAN do to Make Your Situation Better.
No matter what we are going through there will always be steps we can take to better our situation. I read a quote once that said, “whatever you are not changing you are choosing.”
Don’t choose to let disappointments drag you down and stop you. Make a choice to do everything you can to change what you can. Every step forward will bring new light to your life motivating you along the way.
-Train Your Mind to be Filled With Positive Thoughts Instead of Negative Ones.
When negative thoughts are bombarding our minds and are constantly reminding us how bad things are it drags you down.Train yourself to recognize the negative thoughts and when they come shut them down and replace them with positive thoughts.
The more you do this you will find an inner peace and happiness that helps you move forward to better days.
-Control Your Emotions Instead of Your Emotions Controlling You.
Emotions are fickle and if you let them they will continually drag you down and depress you. By finding ways to replace anger with love, sadness with happiness, or dread with hopefulness you’ll find yourself to be more motivated and free.
While we all will find ourselves facing difficult, painful, and heartbreaking circumstances from time to time we can find the inner strength to press on to brighter days. Lets all strive to be “Unbroken” like, Louis Zamperini, even when facing unsurmountable odds. No matter what life throws at you, with Gods strength, you can prevail by choosing to take control of how we respond to them.
