It doesn’t matter what kind of day you’re having, it could be one of the worst days of your life, and sometimes you just need to laugh it off. Laughter erases any sense of disappointment, discouragement, and despair. It helps shift our thinking from being completely miserable to being uplifted and full of joy. When our mouths are filled with laughter, and our tongues shouting for joy we are reminded of all the great things the Lord has done for us (Psalms 126: 2 emphasis mine). When we are focused on what God’s done for us in the past it helps us to trust Him and remain positive for what is to come in the future. It keeps us focused and at peace in belief that tomorrow is a new day with new opportunities.
Scripture tells us to have faith like a child (Mark 10: 15). As a child your only care in the world is the next happy moment with your friends. You don’t worry or fret over mundane things because you trust and believe that mommy and daddy have it under control. We need to have the same faith in our God in heaven as adults. I saw this video this week and absolutely loved the simplicity of the childlike peace and joy exuding from this baby. All daddy is doing is ripping a peace of paper and he just cracks up with everything in him. When you watch it you can’t help but laugh and smile because laughter is contagious. Just from watching the video all cares and worry disappear for that 1 minute and 44 seconds. Imagine if we purposely filled our hearts with the joy of laughter on a daily basis.
For the past 20 years being paralyzed I make a purpose to NOT focus on the paralysis, but to focus on all the joy I have in my life. Finding laughter in the not so wonderful days helps to lighten things up, and finding laughter in the good days just elevates you even higher. Everyday no matter what is going on in your life find a way to make yourself laugh. Watch a movie that makes you chuckle, read some jokes, or watch a comedian. There are all kinds of funny things out there to lighten the mood. You won’t regret it because it will bring joy to your heart and good health to your body (proverbs 15: 30 emphasis mine). Laughter is a medicine we all need so be sure to take a daily dose of it.
