Philippians 3:14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
The New Oxford American dictionary defines the word press, “as to move, or cause to move into a position of contact with something by exerting continuous physical force, or to move in a specified direction by pushing.” There are times when life turns in a difficult direction and it becomes hard to move at all, much less keep pressing forward. When those times come we have to remember that the only way change is going to happen is to continue to press toward the goal. Each one of us, no matter what our circumstances are, has a purpose in life. Just like an athlete training for the Olympics, we have to be purposeful in our every day actions working the right muscles to win the race.
Just as 1 Coriinthians 9: 24- 27 states, “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. “
As we begin to follow the example from this scripture circumstances begin to change and lives are transformed. I’ve always loved the saying, “if you do what you can do, then God will step in and do the rest.” Yes it may be difficult it first, but pressing forward in life and looking beyond our situations is the fastest way to overcome them. Let nothing hold you back as you take a chance on life and embark on truly living. Don’t allow your circumstances to disqualify you from the race. Use it to motivate you into a lifetime of serving God, that will bring a crown that will last forever, for which God has called us heavenward in Christ Jesus.
